Should I Get a Nose Ring?

If you're thinking about getting a nose piercing, you have several things to consider. First, whether nose rings are really accepted in most jobs and social settings. Second, the cost and discomfort associated with it. Third, the healing process and risk of infection and other problems.

The first issue is probably the most important for a lot of people, really, because they have jobs that they must work in and they socialize with others. What you do for a living, how much interaction you have with customers, and how understanding your boss is will affect whether you can get a nose ring and still keep your job. Once it heals you'll be able to take it out at work, but until that point you won't so whoever you work for will have to allow you to wear it for a few weeks. If he or she won't do that, you'll likely have to hold off on getting the piercing, since you don't want to risk your job over it. If you're unemployed, self employed, or in school, it's pretty much up to you what you do. Just keep in mind that self employed people might need to meet face to face with clients and some of them won't like your nose ring.

They might think that you're unprofessional and that you won't do a good job for them because of your 'poor' choice to have your nose pierced. Others won't mind at all, and it's mostly a matter of perception. Nose rings are much more accepted today, just like tattoos and other body modification, but that doesn't mean that everyone will be accepting of it, so be prepared for some people to look down on you, make comments, or seem uncomfortable around you due to yourring. Nose rings can be great for social situations where they attract attention and often invite comments and questions, but they aren't always the best when it comes to work, and they can also heal poorly and/or become infected if they aren't taken care of the right way. Make sure you think it through before getting a nose ring.
